Using a USB Flash Drive (Offline Installation)

Download the SFK Battery Driver

Installing the SFK Venus OS driver is a fairly straightforward process and is done by the “USB Drive” method. This involves downloading the driver from the Sun Fun kits website and downloading the latest driver for your device. Currently the driver supports most Venus OS platforms such as the Cerbo GX line, the Ekrano GX line, Raspberry Pi (4b & 3) based devices, and other devices supported by the Venus O.S. The key thing to remember is that your device must have an accessible USB port to complete the install.

Visit the Sunfunkits website using the following link: https://www.sunfunkits.com/content/3081/victron-cerbo-gx-venus-os-driver. On the right side of the webpage, locate the dropdown selection for available drivers for Venus OS devices then select the appropriate driver version and click the “Download Driver” button.

A venus-data.tar.gz file will be downloaded to your system.

Prepare the USB Flash Drive

Format the USB drive to FAT32 (to ensure compatibility), do not place other files on the drive; it should contain only venus-data.tar.gz that you downloaded earlier. Copy the venus-data.tar.gz file to the root directory (not inside a folder).

Install the Driver on the Venus OS device

Insert the USB flash drive into one of the data USB ports on the Venus OS device (if using a Cerbo GX, avoid USB 3, as it is power-only). Power cycle the device by unplugging the power, waiting 10 seconds, and then plug it back in. Wait for 2-3 minutes to allow the driver installation to complete.

Do not unplug the power during this process!

Final Steps

Power down the Venus OS device again, remove the USB flash drive from the device. Connect your SFK batteries to USB 1 or USB 2 (use a USB hub if more than 2 batteries are needed). Power on the Venus OS device and check if the batteries are detected, you can verify the driver was installed by going to the settings menu in GUI1 or you should see an SFK menu appear in the settings on GUI 2 of the Venus OS main screen.
