Sun Fun Kits EX+ Batteries with WIFI, Bluetooth 5, MESH, and USB-C

Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Hey ya'll, we are working on our EX+ series of batteries and one of the things we will be improving is the connectivity options by adding support for Wifi, Bluetooth 5, and USB-C directly from the battery. It seems this is the one issue customers want us to address so we will be adding these in the new EX+ series of batteries and V6 kits. You can expect something in Q4 of 2024 / Q1 2025 with the release of 3 models: the 280EX+ and the 315EX (12v) and 145-HPX (24v).

The I/O board will also be changed into a multi-function board. Gone are the Balancer and Temperature icons, instead we have a Bluetooth button, a Wifi button, and a multi-function SFK button that can show the state of charge of the battery, charging lights to indicate if the battery is charging/discharging, temperature, bms errors, as well as various other visual indicators depending on which mode it is in.

We are also changing the active balancer functionality, the active balancer can now be activated at any voltage you wish, both at the cell level or pack level, you can set on voltage, off voltage, or deviation voltage, all done inside the app! Speaking of the app, this will be the first models we release that will not work with xiaoxing/overkillsolar/JBD apps (as in you won't even be able to connect) so you'll be required to use the SFK BMS App to utilize these new features.

Finally we are adding USB-C support so you'll be able to connect these directly to your Venus OS device if you rather not use the RS-485 cable (note the max length of the USB-C cable is 9 feet, while the RS-485 can be as long as 30 feet). This should also resolve any issues you may be encountering if you are trying to use bluetooth and data connections at the same time.

The Micro Controller we will be using the ESP-32 C3 as it provides a good mix of power, features, and price. We'll post more details as things move along, but for now, here are some in development pictures.
