One of the most common requests we is "When the heck are you coming out with a 48v battery kit!" Our response is usually "When its ready!" This has naturally has upset many of our fans so we wanted to share some Work In Progress photos with you to show you what the status of it is.
This will be the first DIY battery on the market that uses thermo-electric heating & cooling using water to stabilize battery temperature. While heating has been solved by many vendors, the cooling aspect is just as important and this has been largely ignored by most manufacturers, however, studies show that high temperature is one of the leading causes of battery degradation. Therefore if we can stabilize the battery temperature and bring it closer to room temperature we can extend the life the battery considerably.
Our solution allows for the heating or cooling of the battery and uses the peltier effect via thermo-electric chiller/heater; we have been working hard on developing the hardware and circuitry to control this. Dual aluminum water plates are setup so that each row of 8 cells can be heated or cooled. The system is a dual pump design and is compatible with common PC cooling components such as 12v fans, 12c dc style pumps, and standard PC style radiators.
Many other features will come as standard such as fully definable active balancing, up to 3 fire suppressors, removable front and back plates, foam and fiberglass insulation that is bolted on (no sticky pad). It will support up to 4 stacked units and have support for a 200 AMP breaker.
More information will be added in the future, we will have small quantities available in Q4 of 2025, with a mass market release scheduled for Q1 of 2026.
And yes, in case you are wondering, support for compressor based cooling/heating system will be available in the future and will use a base station that will supply heating/cooling for up to 4 stacked units.
